Heart of Dixie Shiba Inu Fanciers

Our Purpose

We are a Member Club of the National Shiba Club of America (NSCA). The NSCA is the AKC Parent Club for the Shiba Inu breed in the United States. The Heart of Dixie Shiba Inu Fanciers, Inc. (HODSIF) was formed in 2010 to encourage and promote quality and responsible breeding of the Shiba Inu, protect and advance the interests of the breed through fair and accountable conduct during conformation shows, companion events, and performance sports (such as obedience, rally, agility, coursing, barn hunt, and scent trials), and to educate the public about the breed.


Education

The Club educates the public through various methods, including "Meet the Breed," and seminars held at conformation shows and county fairs. 

Key topics covered in these educational efforts include:

  • Shiba Inu rank among the top ten healthiest dog breeds overall.
  • Shiba Inu are known for being very clean and neat.
  • Shiba Inu are among the smartest and most intelligent breeds.
  • Shiba Inu make great indoor pets, but they require regular exercise. 
  • Shiba Inu have a double coat and shed twice a year.
  • While a fenced backyard is ideal for a Shiba Inu, frequent leash walks can substitute for a fence.
  • Shiba Inu are generally quiet and only bark to alert their owner when something is amiss.

Membership

While the Club’s geographic region includes; Alabama, Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, and Tennessee, HODSIF membership is open to anyone, from any state, who has an interest to uphold the values and standards of the Shiba Inu breed. HODSIF membership spans across twelve states (AL, AZ, FL, GA, KS, MI, OH, OK, OR, SC, TN, WV).
